Bishkek, August 4 / Kabar /. About 70 mountaineers from Lithuania and Estonia plan to climb four peaks in Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul oblast. The expedition under the name "Karakol-2017" will start on August 7 and lasts until August 17.

Deputy Chairman of the Federation of climbers of Kyrgyzstan Vladimir Biryukov said that climbers intend to conquer the peaks of the Karakol gorge and the Altyn Arashan gorge, which are in the Teskey Ala-Too mountain system and give the name to four officially unnamed peaks.

Biryukov added that the purpose of the expedition is the popularization and development of tourism in Kyrgyzstan.

Chairman of the Mountaineering Federation of Lithuania and the head of the expedition Vilyus Shaydukis said that they intend to appeal to the authorities of Kyrgyzstan with a request to give the official title to names of four peaks.

He said that these peaks are to be named: Zalgiris (in honor of the victory of the Lithuanians over the Teutonic Order), Akstinas (in honor of the mountaineer who died in 1969 in the Caucasus), in honor of the 1000th anniversary of Lithuania and in honor of one of the creators of the "Kyrgyz miracle", People's Artist of the KR, scientist and academician Algimantas Vidugiris.
