My Village project to be launched in Kyrgyzstan to improve living conditions of rural residents

Bishkek, Feb. 12, 2019. /Kabar/. Director of the State Agency for Local Self-Government and Inter-Ethnic Relations of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakhtiyar Saliev met representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency and the Good Neighbors International for the implementation of the My Village project in Kyrgyzstan.

“This Project has some similarities with the traditions of our people, because since ancient times, the Kyrgyz people have been working in Ashar (Kyrgyz: Ашара) manner. It is characterized by the fact that at the call of the leader the whole community rises and everyone helps each other and the common cause,” Saliev said.

The project starts this year; the project aims at improving the living conditions of rural residents with the active participation of local communities and creation of a pilot model in 30 villages to spread further experience in Kyrgyzstan.

At the request of the Agency, oblast governors and regional state administrations have made proposals on 57 villages from Batken, Osh and Chuy oblasts.

In the framework of the previously concluded Memorandum between the Agency and KOICA, the pilot villages will be selected by the Project Coordinating Committee, consisting of representatives from the Agency, Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Korean International Cooperation Agency and Good Neighbors International.
