Bishkek, July 8, 2024. /Kabar/. Son-Kul lake is located in the north-west of the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan. This is the second large lake in the country after Issyk-Kul.
The lake is located in the gorges of the Tien Shan at an altitude of 3016 meters above sea level. Son-Kul covers an area of 278 square kilometers and extends 28 kilometers in length and 18 kilometers in width. The average depth is 8.6 meters, the maximum is almost 14 meters.
The area around the lake is very picturesque, especially in summer. Son-Kul is surrounded by low hills, behind which the spiky peaks and snow of the Central Tien Shan ranges can be seen. Due to the high altitude, there are absolutely no trees here, since only short, hard grass and numerous edelweiss grow in such conditions.
