Bishkek, Feb. 1, 2022. / Kabar /. New neurosurgical equipment (an endoscopic stand with a set) was purchased for the National Hospital of Kyrgyzstan for the surgical treatment of a wide range of neurosurgical diseases in post-COVID patients, the Ministry of Health of the country reported.
Chief physician of the National Hospital Toktobay Maanaev said that a sharp increase in neurological diseases is observed among patients who have had a coronavirus infection. “With the help of new neurosurgical equipment, it became possible to remove sufficiently large hematomas, cysts, tumors, vascular malformations and aneurysms of the brain without additional retraction of the brain, excision of its sections and additional expansion of the bone defect of the skull. The advantage of the equipment is that when performing an operation using endoscopy, trepanation of the skull is not required. Access is through small openings in the skull, and some operations are even performed with access through the nose” he said.
Purchased endoscopy equipment reduces the risk of tissue trauma during surgery and prevents possible complications, thereby improving the quality of patient care.
Buranbek Dyusheev, the head of the Department of Neurosurgery No. 1, noted, the use of an endoscope radically increases the efficiency of operations.
It is noted that in addition to this equipment, within the framework of COVID-19 Emergency Response Project, the delivery of a neuronavigation system to the National Hospital is expected.
The COVID-19 Emergency Response Project is being implemented with the financial support of the World Bank.
The objective of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Project is to assist the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in strengthening the ability to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing appropriate preventive measures, purchasing medicines, supplies and medical equipment, and reducing risks for healthcare workers.
