National Literature Day celebrated in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Dec.13, 2019. /Kabar/. The decision to celebrate the Day of National Literature of Kyrgyzstan was made in order to preserve, develop and popularize the works of Kyrgyz literature, the press service of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism reported.

The Day of National Literature of Kyrgyzstan is celebrated in the republic annually on Dec. 12, starting from 2011.

The holiday is dedicated to the memory of outstanding classic of literature Chyngyz Aitmatov, who was born on Dec. 12, 1928. His books have been translated into many languages, more than a dozen films have been made of his works, performances and operas have been staged.

Also, on this date, Dec.12, 1950, national poet Alykul Osmonov passed away . This holiday is also dedicated to other outstanding representatives of Kyrgyz literature.

The Day of National Literature and the 85th anniversary of the Union of Writers of the Kyrgyz Republic were solemnly celebrated at the Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Maldybaev.

Adviser to President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sultan Rayev, Chief of the Office of the Jogorku Kenesh Samatbek Ibrayev, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Kairat Imanaliyev, folk writers, poets, honored cultural figures and the general public participated in the event.

The presentation of the Aitmatov's Universe bibliographic encyclopedia took place at the Osmonov National Library.

An event dedicated to the Day of National Literature and birthday of Chyngyz Aitmatov, an outstanding classic of literature, was held at the Bayalinov Republican Library for Children and Youth.

Winners of Chyngyz Aitmatov Prize were determined on this day.

On National Literature Day all schools, libraries and cultural institutions are especially active. They organize special events dedicated to the holiday, for example, organize readings, hold quizzes, organize discussion clubs, etc.
