The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan,with the support of the World Bank, is holding today a National Water Forum dedicated to the rational use of the country's water resources in the context of climate change and the preservation of Issyk-Kul Lake.
The ministry said that the grand opening of the event was held with the participation of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev, Chairman of the Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development of the Kyrgyz Parliament Amankan Kenjebaev.
The forum is also attended by representatives of government agencies, representatives of the World Bank, representatives of international organizations such as the UN and UNESCO, as well as international experts from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Serbia and other countries.
The purpose of the forum is to rationally use water resources of the Kyrgyz Republic and preserve Issyk- Kul Lake in the context of climate change.
The forum is an important platform for exchanging experiences and developing specific recommendations in the field of rational use of water resources and protection of the lake.
Issyk-Kul Lake, being one of the largest and most beautiful high-mountain lakes in the world, is not only an important ecological site, but also a significant resource for the local population and the country's economy. However, it faces many threats, including climate change, water pollution, overuse of natural resources and deterioration of the ecosystem, the report said.
The National Water Forum is being held for the second time this year. The first was held in 2023.
