Bishkek, Dec.2, 2019 /Kabar/. This year, the total area of agricultural crops for the harvest in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 1216.7 thousand hectares, which is 2 thousand hectares more than the level achieved in 2018, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Janybek Kerimaliyev told reporters at Kabar News Agency.
According to his data, over the last 5 years the volume of unused arable land has decreased from 110 thousand hectares to 63.3 thousand hectares or by 42.7 thousand hectares.
"This year, the demand for fuel and lubricants from all economic entities of the country, which are harvesting corps, was fully satisfied, while the selling market value did not exceed the prices of 2018. Gross harvest of grain crops across the country amounted to 1955.1 thousand tons, which is 57.5 thousand tons more than last year's level, including the gross harvest of corn made 720.1 thousand tons, or 27.2 thousand tons more than last year's figure," Kerimaliyev said.
Also, according to his data, 1104.8 thousand tons of vegetables have been harvested in the country as a whole, or 27.2 thousand tons more than last year's figure.
"Gross harvest of fruit and berry crops amounted to 317.4 tons, which is 18.3 thousand tons more than last year. The republican figures on the yield of all agricultural crops for the reporting period exceeded the level of 2018. Our goals and objectives for ensuring the country's food security are to increase the yield of grain crops by at least 40-50 quintals per hectare through the introduction of new varieties and constant renewal of varieties, as well as advanced innovative cultivation technologies using modern equipment and machine irrigation," Deputy Minister of Agriculture Kerimaliyev concluded.
