Bishkek, Nov.13, 2024. /Kabar/. 13,475 cases of measles have been recorded in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year, the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis reported.
Of those, 1,314 are adults and 12,161 are children, including 9,067 children under 4 years of age.
The largest number of cases was recorded in Bishkek - 5,012 people, Chui Oblast - 3,326 people, Osh Oblast - 1,804 people, Jalal-Abad Oblast - 1,406 people, Osh city - 837 people, Batken Oblast - 510 people, Issyk-Kul Oblast - 249 people, Talas Oblast - 154 people and Naryn Oblast - 177 people.
Meanwhile, 3 fatal cases of measles have been registered since the beginning of the year.
A measles and rubella catch-up vaccination campaign has been launched in Kyrgyzstan since Oct. 21, 2024. The measure is aimed at children aged 9 months to 7 years who have not been vaccinated earlier or vaccinated once. Unvaccinated health care workers, students and teachers of colleges and universities are also subject to immunization.
The purpose of the catch-up immunization coverage is to provide protection against measles and rubella among population groups that for one reason or another have not been fully immunized. This will help to build collective immunity, prevent disease outbreaks and minimize the risk of spread, especially among children. In this regard, measles and rubella immunization will continue to be targeted to reach all unvaccinated children.
