Negotiations held between Kyrgyz, South Korean leaders

Bishkek, Dec.3, 2024. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov held talks with President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol in an extended format as part of his official visit to Seoul.

The two leaders discussed issues of progressive deepening of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Korea in areas of mutual interest, the Kyrgyz president’s press service reported.

President Yoon Suk Yeol warmly welcomed Sadyr Zhaparov and noted that the entry of Korean companies into the market of the Kyrgyz Republic is being intensified and exchanges between citizens of the two countries are expanding.

“Amid intensified exchanges and cooperation, first air service between the capitals of our countries was launched last year. Our government has identified the strategic importance of Central Asia as a bridge connecting Europe and Asia. That is why the first special diplomatic strategy for the Central Asian region, the Korea-Central Asia K-Silk Road cooperation initiative, was unveiled in June this year,” said the South Korean leader, adding that Korea, based on this initiative, intends to resolutely develop relations with the Kyrgyz Republic, which is an important partner in the region.

Yoon Suk Yeol emphasized that he and President Sadyr Zhaparov, after 32 years since the conclusion of diplomatic relations, agreed to raise their level to Comprehensive Partnership.

Sadyr Zhaparov expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that Kyrgyzstan and South Korea are united by long-standing friendly and partnership relations, which are growing stronger every year.

He expressed readiness to deepen political dialog, including at the level of heads of government and parliaments.

Special attention was paid to the K-Silk Road initiative aimed at developing regional ties. The Kyrgyz leader emphasized support for this initiative and assured that Kyrgyzstan is ready to make every effort for its implementation.

“Holding a summit of the presidents of our countries next year will be an important step to further deepen political and economic cooperation at the highest level. I fully support your initiative K-Silk Road aimed at expanding ties between our regions”, said Zhaparov, noting that only by joining efforts it is possible to overcome modern challenges, global problems and solve priority tasks.

The president of Kyrgyzstan emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Republic of Korea in the field of ecology and sustainable development, expressing readiness to implement joint “green projects” and develop renewable energy. He invited the Korean side to participate in the global mountain summit “Bishkek+25” in 2027, noting the importance of joint efforts to combat climate change.

Sadyr Zhaparov expressed confidence that the agreements reached would serve as a basis for further strengthening of Kyrgyz-Korean relations, and invited President Yoon Suk Yeol to pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan.
