New strain COVID-19. Kyrgyzstan to conduct genomic studies of circulating viruses

Bishkek, Jan. 12, 2021 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan will conduct genomic studies of circulating viruses due to a new strain of coronavirus spreading around the world, Deputy Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurbolot Usenbaev told at a briefing.

He said that the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health has agreed with institutes in Novosibirsk and also with couriers to conduct genomic studies of the circulating virus.

“The first batches of material are ready, we will start sending our samples to compile passports of circulating viruses,” he said.

Usenbaev noted that a new strain of coronavirus has been identified in 43 countries. The first infected with a new strain has been identified in Russia. The deputy head of the Ministry of Health said that the new strain of coronavirus is 1.5 times contagious and the spread rate is two times faster.
