New terminal of Karakol International Airport to be completed in late 2023

Bishkek, May 7, 2022 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov today, on May 7, as part of his working trip to Issyk-Kul, laid a capsule for the construction of a new terminal of Karakol International Airport, which is scheduled to be put into operation at the end of 2023.

According to the press service of the head of state, the president was informed that at present there is one artificial runway 2000×35 m in size and one spare unpaved runway 1800×100 m in size at the airfield of the Karakol International Airport, taxiways connecting the runway to the apron.

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic approved the Action Plan for the reconstruction and modernization of airports and air terminal complexes. In particular, the Action Plan includes work on the Karakol International Airport, reconstruction of the elements of the Karakol airfield with an extension of the artificial runway by 400 meters, as well as the construction of a new building of the terminal complex of the Karakol International Airport.

The construction of a new terminal opens up great opportunities for the Karakol airport. Thus, it becomes possible to receive passengers on international flights. The modern passenger infrastructure and favorable location of the airport will help attract additional tourist flows, contributing to the socio-economic strengthening of the region as a whole.

President Sadyr Zhaparov, having listened to the information on the construction of a new terminal of the Karakol International Airport, instructed to strictly carry out work in accordance with all the rules and requirements of international standards in the field of construction of airfields/airports on time.
