Bishkek, Aug. 19, 2024. / Kabar/. A new variety of beans has started to be grown in Talas region of Kyrgyzstan.

The Ministry of Agriculture said that specialists of the Department for Expertise of Agricultural Crops and Horticulture are currently continuing to conduct field inspections of seed crops of agricultural crops for the purpose of certification.

Farmers of Talas region are mainly engaged in growing beans, but over the past three decades, due to the lack of selection and seed production, variety renewal has not been carried out, which has led to a decrease in yield and quality of products.

To solve this problem, the Ministry, together with a German partner, organized the supply of a new promising variety of beans called Helda in the amount of 7 tons, a super-elite reproduction.

The seeds were sown on seed plots, farms and the Bakai-Ata variety testing site. The expected average yield of the new variety is about 3 tons/ha, which is two to three times higher than the yield of local varieties grown by farmers in the Talas region. It is expected that the introduction of the new variety into production will allow farmers in the Talas region to increase their yield several times, increase production and profits, reach stable exports, and also update their seed stock in the coming years.
