People over the age of 35 are more often infected with COVID-19, but the disease can occur in anyone, Ainara Dorombekova, a neonatologist at the clinical maternity hospital of the National Center for Maternity and Childhood Care of Kyrgyzstan said during a briefing.
She added that parents of infants also need to be alert.
"According to world statistics, among viral diseases COVID-19 was diagnosed in 5% of cases in children in the first month of life. This means that babies have no innate immunity to the disease," the specialist said.
Dorombekova also noted that scientists indicate that children carry the coronavirus more easily than adults.
"However, there are sever cases in the world. It is necessary to notice the symptoms of the disease in newborn children in order to prevent possible complications,” the specialist added.
