Ninth meeting of heads of emergency departments of SCO countries completed in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, Aug. 25, 2017 / Kabar /. The ninth meeting of heads of departments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states dealing with the issues of prevention and liquidation of emergency situations was held in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul oblast on Aug. 24 under the chairmanship of the Acting Minister of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Boronov, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Leaders and representatives of the emergency departments of India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the SCO Secretariat, as well as invited delegations of the International Civil Defense Organization and the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction attended the meeting.

The meeting was opened by Acting Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, who stressed the importance of the event in his speech.

"2017 was a historic and important period in expanding the prospects for the development of the SCO in connection with the official accession of India and Pakistan to the Organization. I am confident that the expansion of the SCO's geographical borders will strengthen its influence in the international arena and increase its representativeness, allow the Organization to reach new heights in political and economic plans,” Boronov said.

During the meeting, the heads of delegations made presentations on the largest (large-scale) emergencies that occurred in the SCO member states, lessons learned from them, and exchanged views on the prospects for further cooperation in the field of prevention and liquidation of emergencies within the framework of the SCO.

Based on the results of the reports, the sides came to a common opinion on the need to intensify joint efforts to further develop cooperation in the field of preventing and eliminating emergencies.

As a result of the meeting, the Protocol of the Ninth Meeting was signed.

A number of bilateral documents were also signed during the event:

- The plan for cooperation between the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

-Plan of activities between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan and ICDO;

-Plan of activities between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan and ICDO.
