Bishkek, Sept. 23, 2024. /Kabar/. Storm Boris, caused by heavy rains that hit Central and Eastern Europe, resulted in destruction and deaths.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said that the country’s foreign institutions reported no casualties among Kyrgyz citizens.
Storm Boris brought to Central Europe up to five times more precipitation than the average rainfall for this month, which from Sept. 11-16 caused severe flooding, especially affecting Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia and Romania. Large areas in these countries were flooded, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people.
Floods killed at least 26 people: 10 in Poland, 7 in Romania, 5 in Austria and 4 in the Czech Republic.
The disaster caused significant damage to homes, commercial facilities, transportation, infrastructure and agribusiness.
The event was predicted in advance by meteorological models and public warnings were issued several days before the onset of heavy rains and security measures were strengthened in the aforementioned countries.
Foreign institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic also sent information on precautionary measures to Kyrgyzstanis via messengers, hotlines and communication with citizens.
