Bishkek, Aug. 19, 2024. / Kabar/. The epidemiological situation with monkeypox is stable, but precautions are being taken, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health reported.
According to the ministry, the WHO declared on August 15 the monkeypox outbreak a global emergency for the second time in two years.
There has been a sharp increase in the incidence of monkeypox in some areas of Africa, which is transmitted from person to person. Since the beginning of the year, the number of cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has already exceeded the total for last year and amounted to 15,600 people. On August 16 of this year, two cases of the disease were registered outside Africa, in Sweden and Pakistan.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Health reports a favorable epidemiological situation with monkeypox in Kyrgyzstan and the absence of a suspicious case.
In order to prevent the import of monkeypox virus into the country, the Ministry has taken preventive measures and has strengthened sanitary and quarantine measures at airports, railway stations and border crossings, paying particular attention to citizens arriving from countries where cases of monkeypox have been registered. Today, sanitary and quarantine points are equipped with thermal imagers and non-contact thermometers for the timely detection of people with fever.
The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, with technical support from WHO, received 3,000 PCR test systems for detecting monkeypox virus in 2022. As of August 19, 2024, there are 500 PCR test systems.
Anti-epidemic and preventive work continues, measures will be taken to acquire additional test systems for early detection of the disease, joint work with the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan and timely provision of information to the population on the transmission routes and prevention of monkeypox are planned. Given the epidemiological situation in certain countries regarding monkeypox, the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan recommends the citizens planning trips to places where cases of the disease have been recorded to take precautions.
