Now Kyrgyz Internal Ministry to issue driver’s license, president signs decree

Bishkek, Dec. 8, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov signed a Decree "On Urgent Measures to Ensure Road Safety in the Kyrgyz Republic," his press service said.

This Decree will improve road safety, reduce the number of victims, the severity of the consequences of road accidents and their consequences.

In recent years, there has been a trend of increasing road accidents with serious consequences in Kyrgyzstan.

Despite the measures taken, it is not possible to achieve a steady reduction in the number of accidents and deaths on the roads. Thus, since 2010 73,851 road accidents were registered in the territory of the republic, in which 11,144 people died and 109,567 people were injured in various ways.

There were 61,694 accidents caused by drivers, in which 10,020 people died and 96,939 people were injured in various ways.

Thus, in order to effectively organize road traffic, improve road safety, as well as taking into account the Global Plan announced by the UN General Assembly Resolution 74/229 "Decade of Action for Road Safety for 2021-2030", guided by articles of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, it is decided:

  • To designate the Ministry of Internal Affairs as the responsible state body in the field of ensuring road safety;
  • To transfer to the Ministry of Internal Affairs functions of registration of vehicles and their trailers, licensing of activities in the field of passenger transportation;
  • To transfer Unaa State Institution with appropriate staff, financial and logistical means to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
