Bishkek, Nov. 25, 2020 / Kabar /. Bishkek hosts the conference "Combating Gender and Domestic Violence During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Committees for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Achievements and Lessons Learned", timed to coincide with the International Day against Domestic Violence.
Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic Samagan Asanov noted that during a pandemic it is very important to carry out preventive measures to prevent domestic violence. “Such events and joint actions aimed at combating violence and protecting women are necessary and very timely, especially during the pandemic, which also caused an increase in the number of domestic violence,” he said.
The event was attended by representatives of the Zhigerduu Zharandar project from several regions of Kyrgyzstan: Issyk-Kul, Osh and Naryn.
Joint action was taken in response to the rise in domestic violence cases reported since March 2020 following the quarantine of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Since 1981, women activists around the world have celebrated the Day against Violence on Nov. 25.
