Number of energy companies to be halved in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Dec. 22, 2021. / Kabar /. In Kyrgyzstan, the number of energy companies will be reduced by half, from 14 to 7, the press service of the National Energy Holding Company said Wednesday.

"The main goals of the energy sector reform are to optimize costs, introduce new generating capacities and strengthen energy security," the report said.

Following companies will be merged:

- Electric Stations JSC and Bishkek Heat Networks JSC;

- National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan (NEGK) OJSC and four distribution companies: Severelectro, Vostokelectro, Oshelectro, and Jalalabatelectro.

Merger of distribution companies with NEGK will take place in two stages.

The reform will produce the following results:

- optimization of management personnel;

- improve the operational interaction of technical personnel;

- development of regional electric grids;

- development of digitalization (AMR and billing system);

- resources between energy companies;

- rational redistribution;

- reducing cross-subsidization of heat and electricity;

- cost reduction through centralization of procurement activities.
