Number of homeless people growing in Bishkek

Bishkek, Dec.10, 2024. /Kabar/. The number of persons without a fixed place of residence is increasing in Bishkek, Larisa Gubina, the Deputy Director of the Social Development Department of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.

Statistics shows that the number of such citizens is growing.

“Kolomto municipal institution in the Pervomaisky district of the capital, functioning on a permanent basis, designed for 70 people. At the expense of the municipality, homeless people are provided with hot meals, social workers provide care, if there is a need, they call an ambulance and determine the residential institution, and so on. In addition, two boarding houses for 140 places are opened in the winter period. Similarly, bedding, medicines and hot meals are purchased at the expense of the local budget,” she said.

Gubina added that Colomto now serves about 1,900 people. The number of persons without a fixed place of residence is growing.

Head of the Public Security Service of the Bishkek City Department of Internal Affairs Gairat Rakhmanov noted that raids are conducted constantly, but with the onset of cold weather, the number of such events increases.
