Bishkek, Dec.2, 2024. /Kabar/. The number of persons with disabilities covered by employment has increased to 2.3 thousand, Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan Zhyldyz Polotova said at the “Inclusive Employment of Persons with Disabilities in Kyrgyzstan” Forum on Monday.
The was organized by the ministry together with the UN Development Programme on the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in order to draw the attention of government agencies, public organizations and private companies to the successful experience of realizing the right of people with disabilities to work and employment, the Labor Ministry reported.
The forum was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov, MP Vinera Raimbachayeva, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic Monica Rizal, employers, representatives of international organizations and NGOs.
Edil Baisalov emphasized that ensuring equal opportunities for people with special needs is an indicator of the maturity of society, and the state should create conditions for their full participation in the life of the country.
Minister Zhyldyz Polotova stressed that there are more than 217,000 people with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan, of whom about 29,000 are economically active citizens.
“Inclusive employment is not only a matter of justice, it is a reasonable investment in building a sustainable economy and a cohesive society. By removing barriers and creating opportunities for people with disabilities, we can unlock the rich untapped potential that benefits everyone,” said Monica Rizal, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan.
The forum included the awarding of business representatives who have created conditions and opportunities for persons with disabilities for inclusive employment.
