Number of raped women and girls increase in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Nov. 27, 2019. / Kabar/. This year, the number of raped women and girls has increased in Kyrgyzstan, director of Sezim Crisis Center Bubusara Ryskulova told reporters at Kabar News Agency

She reminded that Kyrgyzstan launched 16-day campaign against violence against women and girls from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10.

“This year we decided to pay attention to the topic of sexual violence. In 2018, 233 cases of rape were registered, this year for 10 months - 341 cases. This is a terrible injury that remains with a person for life,” said Ryskulova.

The center’s psychotherapist Natalya Pavlova added that more attention needs to be drawn to the topic of violence.

“In the case of sexual violence, only 10% of victims contact the police because they want quickly forget about it. According to our data, only 3% of rape victims seek help, but in reality it turns out that there are many more,” she said.
