Number of victims of military aggression of Tajikistan reaches 36 deaths, 189 injures

Bishkek, May 4, 2021. / Kabar /. On the morning of May 4, 2021, the total number of victims made 36 people, 189 injured, First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development Aliza Soltonbekova told at a briefing.

According to her data, to date, 100 people continue to receive treatment in health care organizations of the republic.

“Of these, 59 people receive treatment in Bishkek, and 41 in Batken. The rest of the victims, after receiving medical assistance, were sent for outpatient treatment and discharged,” she said.

The situation on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated on April 28 after the citizens of Tajikistan began to install surveillance cameras at the water intake in the village of Kok-Tash, Batken Oblast.

As a result of a skirmish, residents of the two countries began throwing stones at each other. Later, military units from both countries got involved. The Tajik forces used mortars, machine guns and Mi-24 military helicopters.

A ceasefire was established between the countries on May 1.

As a result of the clashes at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border over 100 buildings were burnt or damaged, about 33,000 civilians were evacuated from the conflict zone.
