OHCHR ready to continue cooperation with Kyrgyz Government

Bishkek, Jan. 23, 2021. /Kabar/. Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Elvira Surabaldiyeva met on Saturday with Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia (OHCHR) Richard Komenda, the press service of the Kyrgyz Government said.

Surabaldiyeva noted this meeting will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the sphere of ensuring human rights and freedoms.

In turn, Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia (OHCHR) Richard Komenda expressed the organization's openness and willingness to continue cooperation and interaction with the Government of the republic in the field of human rights.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the human rights situation in the country, joint projects and topical cooperation issues between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the OHCHR Regional Office in Bishkek.

In particular, an agreement was reached on joint work on the concept of creating a regional center for youth, capacity building of the Coordination Council on Human Rights under the Government and other state bodies of the country in the field of ensuring human rights and freedoms, as well as interaction with various UN mechanisms.
