Bishkek, Aug. 10, 2023. /Kabar/. Akyikatchy (Ombudsman) of the Kyrgyz Republic Jamilya Jamanbaeva and Director of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF NHRI) for Legislation and Policy Kieran Fitzpatrick held a meeting via videoconference.
The sides discussed the promotion of human rights in Kyrgyzstan and talked about assisting in the development of a national human rights institution by coordinating international cooperation, and also expressed interest in strengthening cooperation to protect human rights.
Jamilya Jamanbaeva noted that the Institute of Akyikatchy is making every effort to intensify its activities as a member of the Asia-Pacific Forum.
Kieran Fitzpatrick noted that the organization had conducted its own analysis of the draft law and that it was in line with the Paris Principles.
“In general, the draft law provides for norms that give more rights and powers to the Ombudsman Institute in the protection of human rights. We welcome the desire of Kyrgyzstan to adopt a law on akyikatchy, which will allow the national human rights institution to be accredited for obtaining statute A,” he said.
