Bishkek, June 20, 2024. /Kabar/. Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhamila Zhamanbaeva took part in a meeting of the Human Rights Commission of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) via videoconferencing.
According to the press service of the Ombudsman Institute, during the meeting the participants discussed issues of protecting the rights of migrants.
Thus, the ombudsman institutions of Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan, as well as the relevant government bodies of Belarus, conducted an analysis of migration legislation, each in their own country.
In particular, the Ombudsman Institute of Kyrgyzstan conducted an analysis of the regulatory legal acts of the Kyrgyz Republic, which stipulate the rights of migrants. Afterwards, he compiled and summarized the data from analytical materials, which were presented by the ombudsman institutions of Russia, Kazakhstan and government agencies of Belarus.
Based on the results of the work done, recommendations were prepared by the CIS ombudsman institutions regarding improving legislation in the field of migrants' rights.
In this context, Zhamila Zhamanbaeva drew the attention of the human rights commissioners of the CIS countries to the importance of strengthening interaction between national human rights institutions in order to ensure the protection of the rights of migrants.
The ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic also proposed to adopt best practices from each other in accordance with generally accepted principles and international law, in order to change the legal status of migrants.
