Bishkek, Jan. 12, 2022 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan's Headquarters for Combating COVID-19 informs about the main differences of the new strain of Omicron, which causes COVID-19 disease.

Thus, the new strain differs from the Delta variant:

- a large mutation (i.e., the presence of up to 32 changes on the spike (protein),

- high contagiousness, increasing the likelihood of infection in rooms where there are a lot of people.

According to Japanese scientists, Omicron is transmitted 4.2 times faster than Delta. The use of social distance and a mask reduces the likelihood of transmission, but does not eliminate it completely, especially if there is prolonged contact in the same room with a person infected.

The incubation period for COVID-19 coronavirus infection is up to 14 days (quarantine lasts 2 weeks).
