BISHKEK, Aug. 16, 2017 / Kabar /. The leader of the parliamentary Ata Meken faction Omurbek Tekebayev was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property by the decision of the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Bishkek.
The former head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Duishonkul Chotonov was also sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case against Tekebaev and Chotonov for corruption and fraud. Russian businessman Leonid Maevsky addressed the State Committee for National Security accusing Tekebaev that in 2010 while Tekebayev was deputy chairman of the Provisional Government, received from him one million dollars of bribe for creating him a number of preferences in the sale of the cellular company "Megacom." He said that Tekebayev did not fulfill his obligations, and refused to return the received money.
In turn, Tekebaev and Chotonov refute Maevsky's words and said that they did not receive any money from him.
