Bishkek, Dec.18, 2019. /Kabar/. “One of the main topics of Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov’s official visit to Saudi Arabia was strengthening of economic cooperation,” Head of the Department for Strategic Development, Economics and Finance of the President’s Office Daniyar Imanaliyev said.
“These are the issues of attracting investments, deepening trade and economic ties, implementation of major investment projects, strengthening relations and ties between business circles of the two countries.
As of today, the potential between the two countries has not yet been realized, and there are great opportunities to attract direct investments from Saudi Arabia," he added.
The head of the department said that at the meeting with King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov voiced a proposal to establish a Kyrgyz-Saudi Economic Cooperation Fund. The same issue was discussed at the meeting with Executive Director of the Saudi Fund for Development Khalid bin Sulaiman Al-Khudairy.
"The talks resulted in signing of documents, including on the Balykchi-Karakol-Balykchy highway, a section from the village of Korumdu to the village of Balbai, which will connect this highway with the Tyup-Kegen highway.
The Tyup-Keguen road is known to be one of the key arteries and will connect Kazakhstan with Kyrgyzstan in the future. This will contribute to the development of tourism in Issyk-Kul Oblast and the country as a whole,” said Daniyar Imanaliyev.
He also called the signed document on cooperation in the field of veterinary safety of agricultural products as another important document.
Besides, a number of projects in energy, construction, transport and financing of investment projects in Kyrgyzstan were discussed.
Measures to support small and medium-sized businesses were discussed at the meeting with the Islamic Development Bank. It was proposed to develop a draft of a separate document on the Strategic Partnership between the IsDB and Kyrgyzstan.
"Negotiations on economic cooperation were held to develop mutual supplies of products to both Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia expressed great interest in processed agricultural products, as food security is key. As you know, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia imports a lot of products from other countries,” said Daniyar Imanaliyev.
Negotiations were held to increase the potential of meat and dairy products and other agricultural products supply. The availability of air services is an important point to enhance trade and economic cooperation.
These issues, in particular the negotiations on cargo, including air transportation, the establishment of direct flights between Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia were also discussed.
On Dec. 15-17, at the invitation of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov has paid official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Within the framework of the visit, the meeting of the Kyrgyz President with King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud took place in Riyadh.
President Jeenbekov also held meeting with Chairman of the Majlis ash-Shura (Consultative Assembly) of Saudi Arabia Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh.
Besides, negotiations were held with Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of the Saudi Fund for Development Khalid bin Sulaiman Al-Khudairy, and President of the Islamic Development Bank Bandar Hajjar.
President Sooronbay Jeenbekov also visited the new complex of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh on the occasion of its opening, and met with compatriots living in Saudi Arabia.
He has arrived in Bishkek on the night of Dec.17.
