Only 1.3% of accused of gender-based violence convicted in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Dec. 4, 2021. / Kabar /. “Impunity leads to the fact that the violence is on the rise,” said Anara Niyazova, head of the NGO Innovative Solutions.

“In recent years, the number of people who applied to crisis centers on the fact of gender-based violence has increased, and in 2020 it amounted to 7,729 people. The number of aksakals (elder people) who applied to the courts, on the contrary, decreased, and in 2020 made 540 appeals. The number of convicts for cases of gender-based violence in 2020 is 251 people, which is 1.3% of the total number of appeals," such data was presented by head of the NGO "Innovative Solutions" Anara Niyazova at the presentation of the results of the project "Promoting the rule of law and access to justice for victims of gender-based violence: lessons learned and recommendations”.

The meeting was attended by representatives of government agencies, local governments, civil society organizations, international missions and organizations, and the media.
