He said that the country is working to improve the provision of the population with clean drinking water.
“A list of priority villages has been formed, thus, there is no water supply system at all in 653 villages, or there is an outdated system that was built in the last century,” Momunov said.
He also added that in 2019, Kyrgyzstan allocated KGS 350 million from the budget for the construction of water supply in 22 villages.
“Work is also underway to attract donors to finance a program to provide the population with clean drinking water. The World Bank has funded the construction of water supply systems in 32 villages. Over the past three years, 101 villages have gained access to water in the country. Currently, water supply systems are being built in 207 villages,” Momunov said.
According to him, the country's leadership adopted a development program to provide the population with clean drinking water, according to which by the end of 2023 the country's population should have access to clean drinking water.
“The World Bank will allocate USD 71.2 million for a water supply in 117 villages of Osh and Issyk-Kul Oblasts; An Islamic bank will provide a loan of USD 23 million; for this money, a water supply system will be built in 24 villages of Jalal-Abad Oblast; also, the Saudi Development Fund will allocate USD 50 million, and also USD 10 million will be allocated from the state budget for the construction of water supply in 110 villages in Batken and Talas Oblasts. In addition, the Asian Development Bank will allocate USD 32.9 million for the construction of water supply in 31 villages,” Momunov said.
He also added that China will provide a grant of USD 100 million, 105 villages of Jalal-Abad Oblast will be provided with water for these funds. “The EBRD will allocate EUR 110 million to provide water to 27 villages; The Eurasian Development Bank will allocate USD 200 million, these funds will be spent for the construction of water supply in 95 villages of Osh Oblast and 90 villages of Chuy and Jalal-Abad Oblasts, ” Momunov informed.
He noted that in general, USD 769 million will be spent for providing the country's population with clean drinking water.
