The issue of determining the line of the state border is the task of the intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Tajik commission, and only it can put an end to the protracted territorial dispute between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Presidential Envoy in Batken Oblast Abdikarim Alimbaev wrote on his Facebook page.
He noted that the task of heads of Batken Oblast (Kyrgyzstan) and Sughd Region (Tajikistan) is to prevent conflict situations and their escalation on the border, as well as to make efforts to develop the economy of border areas.
"We are once again convinced that disputes over the definition of the border line cannot be solved by military action. We need a constructive and peaceful dialogue at the negotiating table, because the lives of people who live in the border areas, their future and the future of their children - citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan - are at stake.
I urge the Tajik side to refrain from making statements that aggravate the situation in the border area until the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border is legally formalized. I suggest that all efforts be made to maintain peace and stability on the border and to strengthen economic and cultural ties between our peoples," Abdikarim Alimbaev wrote.
