Bishkek, Feb. 7, 2019. / Kabar /. The issue of opening the second Russian military base in the Kyrgyz Republic was not considered at the level of the Secretariat of the Security Council and at the level of presidents, Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Damir Sagynbaev told at a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
He recalled that solemn events were held last December on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, timed to the 15th anniversary of the air base in Kant. It exists in the framework of the CSTO and provides additional forces and means for ensuring national security not only of Kyrgyzstan, but of the entire Central Asian region.
Continuing the topic, Sagynbaev said that at the level of the Security Council secretariats and at the level of the presidents, the issue of opening a second military base in the Kyrgyz Republic was not considered.
“It is possible that at the level of experts of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, or the General Staff of the State Committee for Defense Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the issue was considered as a forecast. But it should be noted that modern threats, which exist not only in the Kyrgyz Republic, but also in the whole world, show that terrorism and extremism are gaining great strength and resources. ISIS, which was defeated in Syria, is gradually moving to the north of Afghanistan. There is a threat to the security of Central Asia. The bases that exist in Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic in conjunction with our law enforcement agencies, give serious strength to repel the militants' intentions,” he added.
