Opening seminar on climate change held in Bishkek

Bishkek, Feb. 14, 2019. /Kabar/. An opening seminar of the GEF-UNEP Project on “Kyrgyzstan: Assistance in the Preparation of the Fourth National Communication (NC4) and the First Biennial Update Report (BUR1) under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)” was held in Bishkek, the press service of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The goal of the project is to prepare country reporting documents for the Convention NC4 and BUR1.

Director of the SAEPF Abdykalyk Rustamov stressed that at present the issue of climate, adaptation to the consequences of its change and mitigation is one of the most important topics not only in Kyrgyzstan, but throughout the world.

“For the purposes of fulfilling the obligations under this convention, with the support of UNDP and UNEP, the First, Second and Third National Communications have prepared. The process of preparing the Fourth National Communication on Climate Change is currently beginning. As part of this preparatory process, some work has already been done,” Rustamov said.

In turn, Program Officer of UNEP, project curator Susan Tapapul highly appreciated the support of the SAEPF leadership in the implementation of this project and expressed hope for further cooperation and that the project will be fully implemented.
