Bishkek, Nov. 3, 2018. /Kabar/. Representatives of 50 municipalities of Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Naryn and Osh oblasts will gather in Bishkek on November 5 to take part in the fourth Forum of Aimaks.

Local government leaders, government officials, representatives of business structures and international organizations will discuss opportunities for local economic development, the US Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Over the past two years, the forum has become a platform for municipalities to share best practices in local development. This time the theme of the forum will be the increase in municipal budgets by improving tax administration, developing municipal services and introducing advanced management practices in local governments.

The event is expected to be attended by over 170 people, including US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Donald Lu and head of the Department of Strategic Development, Policy, Economy and Finances of the Kyrgyz President’s Office Daniyar Imanaliev.

The Forum of Aimaks is one of many USAID events that contribute to the socio-economic development of regions, which has become especially important in the Year of Regional Development declared by President Sooronbay Jeenbekov.

The event was organized by a five-year USAID Successful Aimak project with a budget of $ 9.5 million, aimed at strengthening municipalities and increasing the level of citizens' trust in local government. The project is currently working with 50 municipalities of Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Naryn and Osh oblasts, helping them to improve such services at the local level as water supply, collection and removal of municipal solid waste, agriculture and other priority areas of local economic development.
