Orozbek Ashirov from Kyrgyzstan wins title of World Alysh Champion

Osh, Dec.24, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Orozbek Ashirov became 2019 World Alysh Champion.

The tournament ended on Dec.23 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Ashirov competed in the weight category up to 100kg. The Kyrgyz athlete started in the quarter-finals, where he defeated a Moldovan representative.

In the semi-finals, Orozbek Ashirov defeated athlete from Georgia and reached the finals.

In the decisive bout Ashirov's rival was a wrestler from Mongolia. The Kyrgyzstani defeated him and became the 2019 World Champion.

Alysh, or Belt Wrestling is a form of wrestling that is one of the oldest historically recorded sports. It involves contestants aiming to knock each other over by grappling with a belt.
