OSCE is losing its relevance as platform for open and equal dialogue, says Kyrgyz FM

Bishkek, Dec. 2, 2021 . / Kabar /. At the invitation of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Ann Linde, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev took part in an informal meeting ahead of the 28th meeting of OSCE Ministerial Council in Stockholm.

During the event, Kazakbaev joined U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as keynote speakers in a thematic discussion on the OSCE concept of comprehensive security and the implementation of OSCE commitments by participating states as part of its implementation, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported.

In his speech, Kazakbaev emphasized that the OSCE is losing its relevance as a platform for open and equal dialogue due to the diminishing role of the organization in ensuring stability and levelling conflict situations, including due to the existing imbalance in the implementation of the three key dimensions of OSCE security.

The Kyrgyz sides believes that one of the fundamental problematic aspects of the Organization continues to be the crisis of confidence between its members, the issues of implementation of commitments by participating states within the OSCE. These circumstances only exacerbate the contradictions within the Organization and damage its credibility in the international arena.

Kazakbaev stressed that all problems and challenges in the OSCE region should be solved through the development of constructive dialogue and on the basis of consensus, which will require good political will from all participating states.

Regarding developments in Afghanistan, the Kyrgyz foreign minister stressed the importance of immediate action by the international community, including the OSCE participating states, to provide the necessary socio-economic and humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
