Bishkek, Dec. 5, 2020. /Kabar/. On Dec. 3-4, Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev took part in the 27th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE participating states (OSCE Ministerial Council), which was held under the Albanian chairmanship in the format of a videoconference.
In his speech, Ruslan Kazakbaev focused on the domestic political situation in Kyrgyzstan, the work of the Constitutional Counsel and planned key reforms of the state system, as well as the issue of overcoming socio-economic difficulties caused by COVID-19, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said.
He informed the international community about the presidential elections scheduled for Jan. 10, 2021, as well as the parliamentary elections.
The Kyrgyz foreign minister also said the Government of the country is looking for fundamentally new methods to organize the system of public administration that would meet the requirements of the time and citizens of the country.
Within the framework of this process, the main priorities are identified as tough fight against corruption and organized crime, careful selection and training of civil service personnel, reform of judicial and law enforcement systems. In this regard, Kazakbaev urged the OSCE and its participating states not to stand aside at this crucial moment for the country.
In conclusion, the minister congratulated Sweden's Foreign Minister Ann Linde on assuming the OSCE Chairmanship in 2021 and emphasized the Kyrgyz Republic's readiness to fully participate actively in the OSCE's work on a broad agenda.
Besides, heads of 4 key OSCE institutions were approved during the meeting - the post of OSCE Secretary General was taken by Helga Schmid (Germany), OSCE ODIHR Director – Matteo Mecacci (Italy), OSCE HCNM – Kairat Abdrakhmanov (Kazakhstan) and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media – Teresa Ribeiro (Portugal).
As a result of the event, the foreign ministers adopted a number of important documents, including the OSCE Ministerial Declaration on COVID-19, the Declaration on Strengthening Cooperation in the Fight against Transnational Organized Crime and the Decision on Preventing and Combating Corruption through Digitalization and Transparency.
