OSCE / ODIHR intends to analyze role of parliament in Kyrgyzstan under presidential form of government

Bishkek, Dec. 4, 2021. / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev and Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci met on Dec. 3, 2021, in Stockholm, within the framework of the 28th OSCE ministerial meeting.

The central topic of the meeting was the discussion of the results of the past parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan. Minister Kazakbaev thanked the OSCE / ODIHR observer mission and personally Mr. Mecacci for the monitoring campaign and objective preliminary assessment of the parliamentary elections. The minister said that the Kyrgyz side is looking forward to the Final Report of the International Observer Mission to consider and carry out appropriate work to eliminate shortcomings and improve the electoral process in the future.

The Kyrgyz foreign minister assured that all the recommendations set out in the report will be taken under control by the country's leadership, which instructed to conduct a thorough and transparent check on all controversial and high-profile issues of the elections.

In this context, Minister Kazakbaev invited Director of the ODIHR to visit the Kyrgyz Republic next year to present the Final Report of the International Election Observation Mission within the framework of a round table with the participation of all stakeholders, including representatives of non-governmental organizations, civil society and political parties.

In turn, the ODIHR director expressed his readiness to visit the Kyrgyz Republic in 2022 and noted that this would give a positive impetus to the dialogue between the OSCE and Kyrgyzstan on the development of democratic institutions. He especially expressed interest in establishing working contacts with the newly elected parliament. At the same time, he offered to provide expert assistance in revising and bringing the legal framework of Kyrgyzstan in line with international standards. In addition, he expressed the intention of the OSCE / ODIHR to analyze the role of parliament under the presidential form of government in the Kyrgyz Republic.
