OSCE Secretary General: Kyrgyzstan has high level of respect for human rights and freedom of speech

Bishkek, May 23, 2018 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan has a high level of respect for human rights, freedom of speech and the importance of the role of parliament in society, OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger told during a meeting with Speaker of Kyrgyz Parliament Dastanbek Dzhumabekov in Bishkek.

Greminger expressed hope for further close cooperation in the development of the institution of parliamentarism and the strengthening of democracy, and thanked for the warm reception given him by the country's leadership.

Dzhumabekov expressed hope that the visit of the new Secretary General will give a new impetus to the further development of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the OSCE.

The Speaker reported on the efforts being made to strengthen the democratic foundations, the development of the institution of parliamentarism and the implementation of reforms at the state level.

He also reminded that in autumn the meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Bishkek, where a large-scale conference "Promoting dialogue in the security sphere in Central Asia and beyond its borders" will be held. Preparations for this important international event are under way.
