Bishkek, June 12 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev met with visiting Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Lamberto Zannier, the Kyrgyz leader’s press service reported.
During the meeting, the President warmly greeted the OSCE Secretary General in Kyrgyzstan and thanked for the support provided to the country. In particular, the he highlighted the OSCE's assistance in organizing and holding parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan using the biometric system of voter identification, which increased the transparency of the electoral process and largely ensured the public's confidence. "We are preparing now to hold presidential elections by using modern technologies. We started issuing new electronic biometric passports for citizens," Atambayev said.
Secretary General Lamberto Zannier thanked for the warm welcome and assured that the OSCE will continue to support democratic reforms in Kyrgyzstan. Noting the importance of qualitative preparation for the upcoming presidential elections, Lamberto Zannier stressed that the OSCE is ready to send an observer mission.
The OSCE Secretary General congratulated on launching the Taza Koom digital transformation project, noting that the OSCE's program activities in Kyrgyzstan will also be consistent with the goals and objectives of this project.
The sides also discussed topical issues of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE.
