Osh, June 24, 2019. /Kabar/. The Sabantuy national holiday of the Tatar people was celebrated on June 21 in Jany-Nookat region, Osh Oblast, the press service of the Nookat Mayor Office reported.
The event was attended by local residents and aimed at strengthening at inter-ethnic relations, unity and mutual cooperation.
Organizers are the district state administration, the District House of Culture and Nookat Mayor Office.
The celebration included presentation of gifts on behalf of Nookat Mayor Joomart Nurdinov and a concert program of the staff the House of Culture.
Sabantuy is a Bashkir, Idel-Uralian and Tatar summer festival, which dates back to the Volga Bulgarian epoch. At first Sabantuy was a festival of farmers in rural areas, but it later became a national holiday and now is widely celebrated in the cities. In 2012, Kazan Sabantuy was celebrated on June 23.
The main distinctive elements of Sabantuy include the traditional sporting competitions such as köräş (Tatar wrestling), horse racing, race-in-sack, pillar-climbing, egg-in-spoon-in-mouth-racing.
