Osh, Apr. 2, 2019. /Kabar/. A round table was held at Osh Mayor’s Office on further implementation of the project on creating resilience of local communities and strengthening disaster risk reduction systems.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Youth Affairs Committee of Osh Mayor’s Office Izzatbek Berkhmamatov, head of Osh regional office of the National Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic Azamat Sabirov, representatives of the department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the city of Osh, heads of all the municipal territorial administrations of the city, representatives of universities.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the further course of work on strengthening the potential of the municipal territorial administrations and students by increasing knowledge of the threats to natural disasters and taking the necessary measures to respond to them.
The National Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic have implemented a number of joint activities to prepare the population for emergency situations and minimize the risk of natural disasters, including protecting the population from mudflows, snowmelt flood and floods, developed and tested emergency response plans.
It is reported that within the project more than 8 thousand students have been trained, mitigation teams have been created. Following the meeting, a tripartite agreement was signed between the Youth Affairs Committee of Osh Mayor’s Office, Osh regional office of the National Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic and department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the city of Osh on creation of working groups under the municipal territorial administrations to strengthen disaster risk reduction systems.
Within the framework of this agreement, it is planned to create separate groups of young people in each municipal territorial administrations who will receive appropriate training in accordance with international standards, after which they will be supplied with all the necessary equipment and will be able to monitor the sections in their municipal territorial administrations, which will be a good help to the relevant government agencies in particular the Ministry of Emergency Situations. In addition, they will be able to provide information assistance and support.
