Outflow of FDI from Kyrgyzstan to Turkey and China increases

Bishkek, Sept. 9, 2022. / Kabar /. The outflow of foreign direct investments (FDI) in January-June 2022 compared with January-June 2021 decreased by 11.8% and amounted to more than USD 483 million.

According to data of the National Statistical Committee, in the structure of foreign direct investment, compared with the corresponding period of 2021, there was a decrease in the outflow of equity capital, as well as reinvested profits. Along with this, the outflow of trade loans and loans received from non-residents (repayment of previously received loans) increased.

The main outflow of foreign direct investment (more than 93%) was observed from enterprises in the field of mining, manufacturing, exploration, as well as financial intermediation and insurance. At the same time, if the outflow of investments from manufacturing enterprises decreased by 5.4 times, geological exploration - by 2.5 times, then from the mining sector, on the contrary, it increased by 12.8 times, financial intermediation and insurance - by 1.4 times.

The outflow of foreign direct investment to non-CIS countries decreased by 6.2% compared to January-June 2021, mainly due to their reduction in Canada (by 2,663.5 times), Switzerland (by 3.6 times) and the Netherlands (by 2.3 times). Along with this, the outflow of investments to Turkey increased by 14.5 times.

The largest share in the total outflow of foreign direct investment falls on Turkey (49.9%) and China (33.8%).

The outflow of foreign direct investment to the CIS countries decreased by 2.5 times due to the reduction in the outflow of investments to Russia (by 3.4 times). Along with this, the outflow of investments to Kazakhstan increased by 37.4%.
