Bishkek, May 13, 2023. / Kabar /. Deputy Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic Albert Kolopov and Head of the UNHCR National Office Ivan Saleev held a meeting on Friday, where they discussed issues of ensuring the rights of asylum seekers in Kyrgyzstan.
The sides discussed joint actions to protect the rights of persons who wish to obtain refugee status in Kyrgyzstan.
According to data of the head of the UNHCR National Office Ivan Saleev, there are 1,100 people living in the Kyrgyz Republic who need to obtain refugee status.
The problems of such persons with employment, access to education, medicine and other social services were also voiced at the meeting. According to the law, the documents of persons wishing to obtain refugee status are considered by state bodies within a year.
The sides came to the conclusion that it is necessary to study the situation in order to identify problems in the law enforcement practice of determining the status of refugees, observing their rights and legitimate interests.
Kolopov noted the importance of preparing a special report on the situation with refugees based on the monitoring results.
