Bishkek, Dec.30, 2019. /Kabar/. There are 1 thousand 631 Kyrgyz citizens in overseas detention facilities, Almaz Imangaziyev, Director of the Consular Service Department told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
The largest number of Kyrgyz serving sentences, 1,400 people is in Russia.
"Next comes Kazakhstan, 104 Kyrgyz citizens are serving their sentences in this country. Kazakhstan has been cutting back on prison programs, amnesty and transfers. There are 33 Kyrgyzstanis in Uzbekistan, in Tajikistan-24, in China- 13, in Turkey-8, and 4 Kyrgyz in other countries. All these figures are under constant review of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Prosecutor’s Office,” Imangaziyev said.
He added active work is underway to transfer prisoners to Kyrgyzstan.
In particular, in May 2019, 3 Kyrgyz were transferred from China to Kyrgyzstan.
"Talks are underway to transfer five more people from China," he added.
Almaz Imangaziyev said in 2019, the representatives of the consular service visited 10 colonies in Russia, where they met with convicted Kyrgyz and provided them with legal assistance.
He stressed the transfer of a convicted person to Kyrgyzstan first of all requires the consent of the citizen himself.
