Bishkek, Apr. 9, 2019 / Kabar /. Over 20 years of cooperation, the OSCE has made a huge contribution to the development of Kyrgyzstan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov told at the conference “20 years OSCE presence in the Kyrgyz Republic. Achievements and prospects.”
He noted that the visit of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office to Kyrgyzstan has become symbolic because this year marks 20 years since the establishment of the mission in Bishkek.
“We are glad to welcome the former employee - Marcus Muller - a big friend of Kyrgyzstan. We remember the first ambassador and a wonderful professional team of local staff. All these years we have felt the support of the OSCE in the development of Kyrgyzstan, strengthening democracy and stability. For two decades, the OSCE has been supporting the implementation of three dimensions of Kyrgyzstan’s commitments. In this regard, we note with satisfaction such facts as countering transnational threats, law enforcement reform, development of parliamentarism, strengthening the capacity of local governments, the rule of law, fighting corruption and crime, regulatory reform, support for small and medium-sized businesses, strengthening democratic institutions, freedom of word and development of civil society,” he said.
The Minister noted that the OSCE’s significant contribution to strengthening the capacity of relevant government agencies, which, with the support of the OSCE, participate in conferences, seminars and forums to improve their skills.
“We are pleased to note the activities of the program office in Bishkek with the new mandate. I am sure that the program office will continue to contribute to the development in the above-mentioned areas and strengthen interaction with the OSCE,” added the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
