Bishkek, Oct. 27, 2021 . / Kabar / . More than 250,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine and 111,600 doses of Sinopharm vaccine arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Oct. 27.
The press service of the country’s Health Ministry reported that Pfizer is the third batch of COVID-19 vaccines to arrive in Kyrgyzstan through the COVAX initiative.
The vaccines were donated by the U.S. government.
"Together we must continue to take the offensive against COVID-19. Today's vaccine donation, along with U.S. financial support for the Kyrgyz vaccination campaign will help ensure that anyone in the Kyrgyz Republic who wants a safe and effective vaccine, can receive one," said U.S. Charge d'Affaires Sonata Coulter at the transfer ceremony.
Along with the Pfizer vaccine, Kyrgyzstan received 111,600 doses of Sinopharm vaccine, also provided by the COVAX initiative, and 43,800 vials of special vaccine diluents.
"UNICEF and WHO support the Kyrgyz government's efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and achieve 80% vaccination coverage in the country. As part of the COVAX initiative, UNICEF is procuring vaccines, cold storage equipment for vaccines, and special vaccination consumables," said UNICEF Representative in Kyrgyzstan Christine Jaulmes.
"The Kyrgyz Republic, like all countries in the world, is facing a massive health crisis. We all need to realize that vaccination is one of the most effective methods of fighting COVID-19 and get vaccinated. I am very grateful to the U.S. government and all of our development partners who are helping us as much as they can in combating COVID-19,” Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Health Alymkadyr Beishenaliev said.
