Over 500 thousand low-yield pastures in Kyrgyzstan can be efficiently developed: ministry

There are more than 500 thousand low-productive pastures in Kyrgyzstan, which can be efficiently developed, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development of the republic Azamat Mukashev said during a round table entitled “Actual challenges to national security of Kyrgyzstan” in Bishkek.

He added that a draft law was developed in order to develop unproductive pastures.

"There are huge hectares of such land in the country. They can be developed. Pay attention to how lands transferred by the state for 49 years are being developed. They are all fenced, sown and bear fruit. The same can be done with low-yield pastures. We have certain projects. If these lands are developed, there will be a certain safety cushion for food security. In addition, preservation of our glaciers is also the basis of food security,” the deputy minister said.
