In Kyrgyzstan, more than 7 thousand citizens received services of a free lawyer since the beginning of the year, and over 20 thousand citizens received counseling, Director of the Center for Coordination of the State-Guaranteed Legal Aid of the Ministry of Justice of the republic Akzhol Kalbekov told during a press conference at Kabar News Agency on Thursday.
According to him, the number of citizens who received guaranteed legal assistance increased by 50-60% compared to the previous year.
"This shows that we and the Ministry of Justice are carrying out a large-scale work to inform about the existence of such a system, and number of citizens who apply to the centers is increasing every month. However, our task is to increase not the quantity but the quality of legal assistance," he said.
Kalbekov added that there is a program to improve the skills of lawyers working in the system.
"A specialized system of a single register of lawyers who specialize in helping victims of domestic violence was created. There are attorneys who have skills to help children. We also train LSG employees to provide legal advice," the director of the center said.
He noted now there are 420 lawyers working in the state-guaranteed legal aid system.
